FreedomPOS
Point-of-sale system for a shop that sells by the gram, with a live scale, per-product stock and shifts.

The Challenge
Selling by weight needs a till that reads the scale and tracks stock per product, next to ordinary piece products.
The Solution
Built with React and FastAPI and running on a PC in the shop: product buttons per category, live scale weight, stock per product, stock management, shifts and checkout with cash, card or split payment.
The Result
Staff check customers out from one screen, with weight and stock per product in view. The owner counts the till per shift and watches along with an app on his phone.
Build details
- The till reads an A&D EK-610i scale over the serial port, with a USB adapter. It shows the weight live and sees whether it is stable. Weights are rounded to common portions and amounts to five cents.
- Stock is tracked per product in grams, with a count when the shop opens and closes.
- An ordinary USB-to-serial cable did not work, because cable and scale transmit on the same wire: a null-modem adapter had to go in between. Because a serial connection can hang, the till finds the scale again by itself and watches whether reading has stalled.
- Checkout works with cash, card or split. A link to the card terminal has been built and tested; entering a card payment by hand also works.
- Staff log in with a PIN. There is a daily backup, and after a fault the system restarts itself.
